About Our Club
A cricket club was formed within the Canberra Workers Club in 1952. The club played matches
against other Workers Clubs in Sydney and the southern NSW region and against other clubs within
Canberra. Regular opponents were Blacktown Workers Club, Revesby Workers Club, the Canberra
Club and Duntroon. These matches continued until the 1980’s and early ‘90s – the last match
against the Canberra Club taking place in 1994.
During the early period of the club it was led by Roy Lee. The original Best Clubman Trophy was
named after him.
In the late 1960’s and early ‘70’s the club grew and attracted players who wanted to play on a more
regular and competitive basis. This led the club to join the fledgling ACTCA sub-district competition
in 1975/76 and then become a founding member of the Canberra City & Suburban Cricket
Association in 1978/79. The club remains one of the two founding members of the CC & SCA to
compete in every season of the association.
